Likewise, thanks for the info there Ranger Yogi, some very interesting facts about the Rangers in Normandy and beyond. I think I will stick to the 2nd as a few of my fellow players at the Hill are going to do the 2nd also (but I will mention the boots!).

I will just put my impression as 2nd Ranger, Pointe du Hoc loadout (minus a HBT shirt, must have had it nicked prior going onto the landing craft)

And now I know what to ask for Christmas: Corcoran boots for the post D-day look!

Not to be taking the piss on digging for info, but what would be the best place to buy from? The states?

but mate, like you say, 90% are seen wearing jump boots, there would still be the minority wearing roughouts, is it honestly that bad if he kept them?

To be honest the jump boots which carry the Corcoran label these days aren't the best because of the finish - it's sprayed on to the leather and doesn't absorb polish very well, I know, I have a pair. They are made very well and won't fall apart, but they look all plasticky when new and one scuff and the finish is ruined. There is a whole thread in the US kit section on how you can improve them by stripping and re-dying them, but by reputation the boots from ATF in the states are meant to be very good (possibly the best).

Cheers

Yes, polishing them may times works very well. I have mine for quite some time now and the more they are worn and used the better they absorb the polish. :good:

ok, looks like i will have to stick to my m1 garand with my airborne stuff then :(

i used the BAR with my 35th infantry today without the extras. loving the lightness of not having that bloody bipod!

i may sell the bipod and carry handle and get a few more mags.

Hey Tom, don't get ride of them on the account of accuracy of one impression, if you're doing a 35th infantry impression then definately keeps it, in Kelly's Heroes pretty sure there was carry handle and bipod on their BAR (Note: I'm not using Kelly's Heroes as a measuring stick for historical accuracy...howver it is a great film!)

Funny you should mention Kellys Heroes-saw bits of it the other day and shows im getting old i was tutting at a few things-one of which was the use of a Belgian Bar

if doing the 5th rangers yes fine ..but most if not all 2nd had jump boots ,,leggings fine as well pre DDay for the 2nd thay ditched them after the point as most hated them ..LOL know how thay feal ..just in the group i am in we only use jumpboots ..and as i have roughouts i can ( and dont that much ) when doing 5th use them... am not haveing a pop ..just trying to help with what i know / have been told over the years of doing the reeinacting hobby ..am here to trty and help .. i know bugger all about airsoft weapons and how to make them run better and all that kind of thing ..but i do know about WW2 rangers /29th uniforms haveing read and lurned about them over the years ..i would never put any one down only try and help point them in the right direction ...we had some at pickering this year ..thay came just wanting to be part of it witch is superb ..but had payed £80 notes each to higher a uniforem for 2 days ..no pots ..thay was useing liners with nets on  ..had the webbing all rigged up wrong and it just sat on the chest and not roung the waist ..shirts was wrong ..and all had dogg taggs on the out side on show ..we had a chat with them telling them what we was and did ..thay saw us all and said we looked the muts nuts ..we changed all the webbing for them so it fit them better ..thay was over the moon with our help
is it a wool shirt hes got on or HBT ?//if wool get some wool trousers and that a fine 5th ranger look he got

Rangers isnt my forte i must say but are you sure that MOST 2nd were wearing jumpboots?

Thats a new one on me :good:

Interesting as i had always been led to believe that it was the other way around with the majority wearing roughouts/low boots and only a FEW had Corcs but you learn something new every day 8)

Think the group must have gone down the road of thay was issued and we will do that impression ..i do have the roughouts and only use them when doing 5th ..jumps look so mush better even with leggings..but i think its up to what ever you have and are happy with ...here ... http://5thrib.com/uniforms.htm
A 5th ranger group useing only jumpboots ..so would say we use only jumpboots and thay do look better the the roughouts ..but if you are happy in roughouts or dont have jumps go with it :good:

There's loads of strange inaccuracies in Kelly's Heroes but I still think it's a fantastic film, I had heard it was a beligian BAR but what gives it away?

My favourite is the "sniper" using a Mosin Nagant! Always makes me chuckle.

It is a fantastic movie and genuinely one of my faves, but considering its a 70's film they do at least TRY for some historical accuracy (i.e mock Tigers based on a T-34, they aint Tigers but where else are they going to get 3 working Tigers from?)

Yeah, its not the greatest for accuracy but comparing it to other 70's War movie's its almost real life War footage!

I am not 100% sure Belgian BAR's are supposed to look like, but comparing my VFC BAR to that of private Petuko's (see pic) that Flashhider is different, the barrel seems to be a bit shorter, the reciever and flip up sight are very different to the US one and the mags are a give away with a "X" on the side (you can just see the cross on the mag in the pic) and most importantly the bi-pod is totally in the wrong place. Phew!-- attachment is not available --

Out of interest, what is "wrong" about Belgian BARs?
After all, Browning spent his last last days at FN.
